With over 30 years experience, CAL offers a unique independent analytical service. Originally set up by Dr. Jack Bloomfield as a contract research unit at Trinity College Dublin, it provided funding for his clinical research in the Dept. of Biochemistry where he is still a Research Fellow. For the first five years the services were offered to the pharmaceutical industry and in addition to testing raw materials and final products, clinical trials were undertaken for both human and veterinary drugs for registration purposes. These studies involved writing protocols, carrying out the clinical arm of the studies in collaboration with consultant physicians and veterinary surgeons, setting up bio-assays and carrying out pharmaco-kinetic and statistical analysis.

The chemical services were established in 1990 and were run as a research unit in TCD until 1999 when the laboratory was taken off-campus and incorporated as CAL Ltd. The services are provided as either an in-house testing facility where tests are set up and validated to meet the requirements of the client or using subcontractors where established testing procedures are employed and accredited. This means that CAL rarely has to turn down a client’s request as our experience allows us to develop any assay required or have it undertaken by a subcontract laboratory.
